The upcoming ESA Living Planet Symposium on 23 to 27 June in Vienna, Austria — will feature presentations by Dr. Bernardo Mota (NPL), and a poster on airborne campaigns for validating satellite observations by Dr. Farrer Owsley-Brown (King's College London').
Bernardo’s talk on The Fiducial Reference Measurements for Fire (FRM4FIRE) project, is scheduled for 27 June in session ‘C.06.02 Advances in Calibration and Product Validation for Optical Sensors’.
Farrer’s poster will be shown on 25 June at Session: ‘A.02.08 Impacts of fire in the Earth system’, titled, FRM4FIRE: Early recommendations for the characteristics and quality of airborne reference data used for satellite fire product evaluation.
Abstracts for both can be viewed via the links provided above.
About LPS25
Held every three years, ESA’s Living Planet Symposia are among the world’s premier events on Earth observation. With the climate crisis intensifying, the Living Planet Symposium 2025 (LPS25) emphasises transitioning from ‘observation to climate action and sustainability for Earth’.
The event provides a forum to present and discuss the latest scientific findings and applications based on satellite data and to review the contribution that data and technologies have made and could further make in addressing environmental and societal challenges.
Among six themes this year is ‘Earth Observation Missions’, showcasing findings from ESA’s Earth Observation Science, Copernicus and Meteorological missions along with results from national programmes.
Influencing and learning
FRM4FIRE: Early recommendations for the characteristics and quality of airborne reference data used for satellite fire product evaluation.
An objective of FRM4Fire is to build awareness and interest in its Fire Radiative Product (FRP) validation research activities. In combination with other outreach activities, FRM4Fire is laying the ground for later in the project, as draft protocol document will be shared with specialist research communities as a basis for future good practice guidance.
Selective extracts of presentations by the project team at these and related events will be shared here in due course.
